How to Fish: Rice Lake
Brian Chan shares his trout-catching tips
North Vancouver's Rice Lake offers a unique "urban wilderness" fishing and outdoor experience. Located at the base of the North Shore mountains and accessed by a well-maintained trail through a lush forest of Douglas Fir and Western Red Cedar, this placid, trout-filled, 7.2 hectare lake is perfect for introducing people of all ages to sport fishing.
Popular Learn to Fish Program Expands to Vancouver Island
The FFSBC's Learn to Fish program is crossing the Straight of Georgia. After years growing demand on Vancouver Island, Learn To Fish is coming to several lakes in the Victoria and Nanaimo areas.
Meeting the Demand for Kokanee Fisheries
The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC is excited about the prospect of providing opportunities for families and new anglers through the development of new kokanee fisheries.
Monitoring has shown a four-fold increase in angling participation on select lakes, but the FFSBC is treading carefully to ensure that wild populations aren't adversely affected.

Anglers 9, Aliens 0 - Anglers Win!
Invasive species such as perch and bass can be a very real threat to trout. In the Thompson River drainage "spiny ray" alien species were illegally introduced into nine headwater lakes. Within a few years these aliens had eaten or displaced the trout and were threatening to expand into downstream waters, putting sport fish throughout the entire Thompson/Shuswap watershed at risk and jeopardizing some of the very best fishing in B.C.
