Undercover Operations Result In Fish And Wildlife Charges
EDMONTON - Fish and Wildlife Officers from Alberta Sustainable Resource Development charged seven individuals with offences under the Wildlife Act or Fisheries (Alberta) Act after undercover investigations into illegal fish and wildlife trafficking activities.
The undercover operations focused on illegal trade of big game, birds of prey (eagles) and fish (walleye).
On Tuesday, January 25, 2005, Fish and Wildlife Officers served summonses on seven individuals and executed four search warrants. Officers seized a truck and numerous wildlife parts.
The individuals charged are from southwestern, central and northwestern Alberta. Initial court appearances are set for the following:
March 14, 2005 in Cardston
March 15, 2005 in Pincher Creek
March 17, 2005 in Wetaskiwin
March 21, 2005 in Peace River
Fish and Wildlife Officers are interviewing additional suspects in relation to this investigation throughout the province and in Ontario and the State of Washington. It is anticipated that these interviews will result in additional charges against individuals and/or businesses.
All of the investigations were initiated as a result of information received from citizens concerned with abuses of Alberta's natural resources.
