FISHING REGULATIONS TO PROTECT TROUT STOCKS

PENTICTON - New fishing regulations have been implemented in several waters in the Kettle River Basin in an attempt to rebuild depressed trout populations and improve angling quality.

Recent studies indicate significant impacts on trout populations in these waters. These regulations are necessary to increase fish numbers and ensure the long-term sustainability of these important wild stocks.

The following regulations were implemented as of April 1, 2004:

Kettle River
* Trout / Char daily quota is zero (catch and release) in the following sections:
* From Lost Horse Bridge (alias Thone Bridge at approximately 26 km on Christian Valley Road) downstream to the confluence with the West Kettle River in the mainstem only. (Does not include tributaries.)
* From the CPR bridge located 2 km downstream of the confluence with the Granby River to Cascade Falls (Highway 395 Bridge) in the mainstem only. (Does not include tributaries.)
* Trout /Char daily quota is one (1) in all remaining sections of river. (Does not include tributaries.)
* Bait ban on all tributaries of the Kettle River
* All other existing regulations still apply

 

West Kettle River
* Trout / Char daily quota is zero (catch and release) in the following sections:
* From Beaverdell Station Rd Bridge to the confluence with the Kettle River in the mainstem only. (Does not include tributaries.)
* Trout /Char daily quota is one (1) in all remaining sections of river. (Does not include tributaries.)
* Bait ban on all tributaries of the West Kettle River
* All other existing regulations still apply.

 

Granby River
* For a period of three (3) years - Closed to Fishing April 1 to October 31 and, trout / char release November 1 to March 31 from immediately downstream of the confluence with Burrel Creek to the Kettle River in the mainstem only. (Does not include the tributaries.)
* Trout /Char daily quota is one (1) in all remaining sections of river in the mainstem only. (Does not include the tributaries.)
* Bait ban April 1 to Oct 31 in the mainstem only. (Does not include tributaries.)
* Bait ban in all tributaries of the Granby River
* All other existing regulations still apply.

 

Christina Lake
* Rainbow Trout Daily Quota is two (2). Only one over 50 cm.
* Barbless hook only
* All other existing regulations still apply
