AngLer Advisory Lifted: Trout Fishing Can Resume In Foothills
ROCKY MOUNTAIN HOUSE - Anglers can once again fish in streams that were affected by an angler advisory issued earlier this summer.
In late July, people were asked to voluntarily stop fishing in foothills area streams where trout were dying due to high water temperatures and low stream flows. Water temperatures were at critical levels as high as 27 C in late July and August. Since cool weather has reduced stream temperatures to below 22 C for about a week, the angler advisory has been lifted.
Fishing can resume in the streams originally identified. However, anglers are reminded to continue to carefully handle and release fish in these waters, because stream flows remain low.
Anglers can now resume fishing in the following water bodies:
* Pincher Creek - downstream of the Town of Pincher Creek
* Todd Creek, Willow Creek, Highwood River and tributaries, Sheep River and tributaries, and Dogpound Creek: ALL DOWNSTREAM OF Hwy 22
* Fish Creek - downstream of Hwy 22X
* Jumping Pound Creek - downstream of Hwy 1
* Little Red Deer River - downstream of Township Rd. 31.0
* Fallen Timber - downstream of Township Rd. 31.0
* James River and tributaries - below Secondary Rd. 584
The Fish and Wildlife Division of Sustainable Resource Development thanks anglers for their cooperation and support.
