Request For Angler Cooperation In Sundre Area
ROCKY MOUNTAIN HOUSE - Recent days of warm weather and low flows in a few foothills streams near Sundre have resulted in some reports of fish kills. The department is asking anglers to avoid fishing in these small streams until water conditions improve.
Sustainable Resource Development staff are requesting anglers not to fish in the following streams:
* Dogpound Creek (between Sundre and Cochrane) where high temperatures have been recorded,
* East Stoney Creek (northwest of Sundre), due to low flows and likely high temperatures,
* lower Fallentimber Creek (passes through Sundre), and the Little Red Deer River (east of Sundre), with reports of dead sport fish, as well as minnows, suckers and burbot.
High water temperatures and low flows place our sport fish populations under considerable stress. Anglers can help by not fishing in these streams to avoid adding to the stress levels of these fish.
Fisheries and enforcement staff will be monitoring the situation to determine whether restrictions might need to be applied, or when conditions improve.
