Egg Pattern

The KidFish website site designed to help students and teachers learn more about our fish, the freshwater world, and the craft of fly fishing.

This project is a local Prince George initiative, lead by Erich Franz, school teacher, avid fly fisherman and project co-ordinator. His vision has been implemented by Karen Heathman of Indigo Ink Graphic Design, web site researcher, writer, and designer.

This site is meant to help children in grades 5 to 7 learn more about their environment. It has been designed as a web-based tool so that it is accessible to a wide array of children. This project is designed to fit within the BC School Curriculum and touches on a broad number of skills identified in the curriculum outline.

GETTING STARTED

MATERIALS NEEDED
  • Hook: Tiemco 105 egg hook, size 8
  • Egg: pom pom (visit hobby stores or fly shops)
  • Glue: crazy glue (or other equivalent glue)

Note: several different materials can be substituted for pom poms, such as chenille, glo-yarn, and even hot coloured glue.

Step 1: Slide the pom-pom onto the hook.
Step 2: Place the hook into the vice. Make sure the pom pom is positioned as shown. This allows you to put the glue onto the shank without the egg getting in the way.

CAUTION: Crazy Glue is a very powerful glue that sets quickly. It glues almost everything, including skin. It must be used carefully in small amounts. If you are a youth, make sure that an adult is present when using this glue.

Step 3: Put some "crazy" glue onto the shank of the hook where the egg will finally rest.
Step 4: Slide the egg into position and let the glue set. Your egg pattern is complete!
