GETTING STARTED

MATERIALS NEEDED
  • Hook: Size 12 Tiemco 205BL
  • Thread: 8/0 Olive
  • Head: Clear Glass Bead
  • Tail: Fine Deer Hair
  • Back: Fine Deer Hair
  • Rib: Small Copper Wire
  • Eggsac: Hot Orange Angora Goat Dubbing
  • Body: Olive Dubbing
Step 1: Slide a glass bead to the eye of the hook and tie on thread.
Step 2: Stack some fine deer hair, measure so that the hair is about 1/8" longer than the hook and tie in behind the glass bead.
Step 3: Move thread to the back of the hook and tie in some small copper wire.
Step 4: Dub in some olive dubbing for the body and wrap about 1Ž2 way up the hook.
Step 5: Dub in a small patch, about 1/8" wide, of hot orange dubbing for the eggsac.
Step 6: Finish dubbing on the rest of the body, with olive dubbing, up to the bead.
Step 7: Pull the deer hair over the hook to form the back.
Step 8: Take the copper wire and take a wrap around the back of the hook and deer hair to form the tail.
Step 9: Take 5 to 6 more turns up the hook with the copper wire making sure the deer hair stays onto of the hook to form the back.
Step 10: Whip finish and pick out the body dubbing to form legs on the fly.
Step 11: The fly is now ready for the spring and fall shrimp fishing.
